Climate Change: local is global
Posted on February 26th, 2009 No commentsAt the core of the 80+1 project are the discussions and debates on our future visions of how to achieve a beneficial impact at both local and global level. Kilpiscope / 80+1 Kilpisjärvi organizes live transmissions of art productions, artists’ statements, discussions, lectures and it will produce short documentaries from its base at the Kilpisjärvi Research Centre. The Kilpisjärvi climate change program will generate art by means of different works and Finnish visualisations of current research on climate change.
Research in Finland on understanding the dynamics of climate change is multifaceted and international in scope: for example, it focuses on relationship between the globe, the atmosphere and the sun; the geophysics of the arctic environment and the biology and ecosystems of the arctic zone, among other topics. The program extends its range to cover societies and communities and everyday living as well as international political dimensions. It will include future scenarios for the conditions that will prevail in the natural and social worlds of the northern areas.
The research mentioned so far is mainly concentrated on the arctic and northern zones. The 80+1 project facilitates a different forum to share work and research on climate change. Via the internet the discussion is widened into a global discussion and transmitted to Linz, where there is a direct link and local experts and an audience ready to ask questions and engage in a dialogue with Kilpisjärvi. The aim is to disseminate the discussions via Linz to the world following the events in Linz and recycle them back to Finland and to the Finnish forums.
